The Lumbar Scoliosis Brace - To Help Check Spinal Degeneration

Scoliosis is the lateral curvature of the spine. It is a progressive disease. Little evidence has been found on the effectiveness of exercises on scoliosis, though there are reports that show some improvement in the degree of curvature. Read this article to know more about spinal degeneration with one of the best spine surgeon in Chennai.

What so far has not been determined is whether the improvement is permanent in nature. The lumbar scoliosis brace is a device to support the spine and check further deterioration of the condition.

People wearing a lumbar scoliosis brace are often suggested exercise to correct scoliosis. These exercises are aimed at helping the wearer adapt to the brace, to allow for correction of the spinal deformity, and to improve trunk muscular tone during the period braces are worn. Braces tend to lead the muscles into losing muscle tone. The physical therapist suggests other exercises for trunk and pelvic correction, which are required to be performed everyday.

Types of Lumbar Scoliosis Brace

Here are some of the common types of lumbar scoliosis braces used to prevent scoliosis from degenerating.

Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral-Orthosis (TLSO) brace:

The TLSO brace comes in many styles, but the most commonly used TLSO brace is the Boston brace. The Boston brace is also known as the underarm brace. Made from molded plastic, the Boston brace is custom made to fit the patient's body. It is usually worn under clothing and is not easy to detect whether the patient is wearing one. This lumbar scoliosis brace applies three-point pressure to the curvature to prevent it from degenerating further.

Charleston Bending Brace:

This lumbar scoliosis brace is also known as the nighttime brace, since it is used only while sleeping. The molding of the brace is done when the patient is bent to the side. It helps in applying more pressure against the curve of the patient to correct the curvature.

Cervico-Thoraco-Lumbo-Sacral-Orthosis brace:

This lumbar scoliosis brace is popularly known as the Milwaukee brace, and is quite alike the TLSO brace. Additionally, it has a neck ring attached to the brace. It is worn all the time, though it can be removed for any sporting activity.

More About Bulging Of The Disc

As one approaches the age of 60, they will start feeling a reason to get a MRI scan, and will more often than not make one on his back. The reason is because most people believe that there will be a problem with their backs due to old age. The disc does bulge is caused by certain strenuous activity that the back has experienced over time, or even in the event of an accident, causing some rupturing to occur in the spine. What really happens? I am not an expert but this is what I have read and tried to put it now for you.

The spinal cord in a human being's back consists of a very many little bones. These bones are joined together to form a unit called the vertebra. Well the vertebrae are joined together forming the spine, and are subsequently separated by certain discs. These discs are a combination of some jelly like matter, surrounded completely by some form of overlaying tissue, just like an onion. Through time, the lifting of heavy loads and using excessive back muscle hardens the jelly like tissue within the disc. When this takes place, the disc hardens and changes its shape. In the long run, it bulges out and raptures across the surrounding tissue. So now you have a bulging disc or some people say slipped disc or slipped disk.

A possible cause of back pain, especially the lower back will be due to some pressure exerted on some of the root nerves by the now hardened disc. Whenever the bulging comes into contact with nerves which are surrounding the disc area, they compress them and will cause the pain that some people may feel on their back or in the bulging disc area.

Bulging of the disc, though, may not be the reason of some of the pains that someone will feel in his back. There are could be a number of reasons you have pain like muscle aches, sciatic nerve pain and also back spasms that will cause the muscle pains that you might be feeling. In fact, most of the effects of bulging of the disc, or disc bulge might not be felt on the back. The reason for this is that the disc and the nerves have a way in which the pain is radiated into some other section of the body. This means that the pain might be revealed at some other part of the body like the leg. The pinching pain, that resembles the one felt like from a needle, constantly happening in the leg, thigh or the foot, might be a result of some form of rupture of the disc.

When the neurosurgeon in chennai sends someone to have a CT scan, or an MRI, the patient will not be shocked to see that the discs in his back have ruptured. It is a common occurrence but does not necessarily mean that the patient's back pain is caused by the same rapture that he has discovered. But it is a good chance that is the problem. Now with laser disc repair they can fix bulging disc much faster and a lot less stress on the person with the problem. Slipped disc or building disc you do not have to leave with the constant pain any more.
